Garmin Approach CT1 Tracking Tags and G20 Solar Handheld GPS

Posted by GolfBox on 22nd Jan 2025

Garmin’s 2025 product launch includes two intriguing devices that have a couple of things in common.

They’re both battery-free. And they’ll both improve your game, without a doubt.

The new Approach CT1 club tracking tags, when connected to a compatible Garmin Approach watch, compile shot data to help you analyse your game and lower your scores.

And, while it’s technically not battery free, the new Approach G20 Solar handheld GPS uses sun power to display accurate GPS yardages in a large, easy-to-read format.

GARMIN APPROACH CT1 CLUB TRACKING TAGS

Garmin’s new Approach CT1 tracking tags are designed to delve into the very soul of your golf game. In other words, they'll let you know which parts of your game are functional while also identifying the most odious areas, so you can set to work quick smart to improve.

Weighing just 2g, Garmin CT1 tracking tags screw into the top of the grip on every club, from driver to putter. There are 16 tags in the pack, which is enough for the 14 clubs in your bag plus a couple of extra clubs you might rotate through the bag every now and then.

As mentioned, the tags are battery free so they never require charging or a battery change. However, the tags aren’t automatic — you need to tap them near your Garmin Approach Smartwatch prior to every shot to register.

All the stats are collated in the Garmin Golf app, where you’ll see average distances and accuracy stats for each club, along with strokes gained stats for driving, approach shots, chip shots and putting after every round.

Garmin CT1 club tracking tags can be preorded at GolfBox now. The anticipated shipping date is March 7, 2025

GARMIN APPROACH G20 SOLAR HANDHELD GPS

The G20 Solar handheld GPS is one of the most pragmatic GPS distance devices in the game.

If you want a simple, no-nonsense GPS device, the Garmin G20 Solar will more than meet the brief. Just switch it on and away you go; you don’t need to charge it, pair it, sync it. Although you can if you wish…

The Garmin G20 Solar’s large 2.2-inch monochromatic screen is super easy to read. It displays big, straightforward yardages to the front, middle and back of the green and to key hazards on the course — even in direct sunlight.

And speaking of direct sunlight, when the G20 Solar is exposed to it, it’ll keep the unit charged. Which seems like a perfect reason to hit the course and play more golf!

The Garmin Approach G20 Solar handheld GPS can be paired to a smartphone running the Garmin Golf app to unlock a few extra features.

Wind speed and direction will be displayed and the Live Scoring feature can also be enabled. And, most pragmatic of all, it will also activate the Find My Garmin feature. If the G20 Solar is ever lost or is shaken from its in-built magnetic cart mount, it’s your safety net for recovery.

The Garmin G20 Solar can also be connected to Garmin’s CT10 shot tracking tags for automatic shot tracking. It won’t, however, work with Garmin’s new CT1 tags.

The Garmin G20 Solar handheld GPS can be pre-ordered at GolfBox now. The expected shipping date is February 21, 2025
