Following a cover-to-core refresh of the Chrome family, Callaway are confident their new tour ball offering will outperform all comers in 2024.
Making the new generation of Chrome balls fundamentally superior to the previous model required a delicate balancing act between upgrading performance yet keeping the essence of the Chrome golf ball.
To begin with, Callaway reengineered their legendary Chrome Soft ball to be a contender in any softer-compression tour ball for 2024.
But a new Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X model join the Chrome line-up and, according to Callaway, the firmer new balls represent a “new gold standard Tour ball for better players who want the best in distance and feel”.
In Callaway’s robot testing, the new Chrome line-up has proven to be longer and more accurate across the board - all without diminishing the more subjective “feel” element that has made Chrome balls wildly popular both on tour and closer to home.
CALLAWAY CHROME TOUR
The new Chrome Tour could be considered a refresh of the firmer Chrome Soft X ball but the reality is, it’s a completely new ball. It seems logical Callaway would retire the Soft X name, especially considering that ball wasn’t all that soft.
Offering a significantly firmer feel, the Chrome Tour is suited to better players with high swing speeds who seek a balance of distance and feel around the greens — achieved via a new core and cover.
The four-layer Chrome Tour ball has also been designed to be more stable in the wind.
CALLAWAY CHROME TOUR X
Designed to reduce spin with the longer clubs - particularly the driver - the four-layer Chrome Tour X features a penetrating ball flight while also being ultra-responsive around the green.
The Chrome Tour X picks up from the Chrome Soft X LS left off and the new Hyper Fast Soft Core, which features the highest compression of the Chrome line-up, offers the firmest feel.
A new mantle layer design and dimple pattern on the reworked urethane cover delivers a low-spinning, penetrating ball flight with the longer clubs while retaining enough supple feel to make greenside shots grip and stick.

- HYPER FAST SOFT CORE
Central to the ball speed gains throughout the new 2024 Chrome ball line-up is a new Hyper Fast Soft Core. The core has been formulated to give the new Chrome line-up the compression characteristics to make all three balls faster and longer. While the Chrome Soft features a lower compression to provide a softer feel, the Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X both feature a firmer core to create extra speed and distance. - NEW AERO-EFFICIENT DIMPLE DESIGN
A new low-drag dimple design is tuned for performance across the three Chrome models. The Chrome Soft features a design that produces a higher ball flight and steeper angle of descent for extra stopping power on the greens. The Chrome Tour is designed for consistent flight, particularly in windy conditions where it should be more stable. And the Chrome Tour X provides a penetrating ball flight that also offers maximum workability and flighting. - NEW URETHANE COVER
A reformulated urethane cover has created more meaningful spin rates and better feel through the bag. While the Chrome Soft has always provided plenty of bite around the greens, the new cover offers greater spin consistency. But it’s in the Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X where the new cover really asserts itself. Fast, low-spin bomber balls generally have an Achille’s heel closer to the green, where the firmer feel doesn’t translate into the spin and feel required for finesse shots. However, the new urethane cover changes that, adding spin and without sacrificing the speed and distance gains off the tee for rather special greenside performance. - PRECISION TECHNOLOGY

Featuring high-launching performance, Callaway have made the new 2024 Chrome Soft longer and more consistent without trading away any of its illustrious soft feel.
The three-piece ball is the softest in the new Chrome range and will be appreciated by players with medium swing speeds who want to stop it on a dime.
Players with faster swing speeds tend to over-compress the Chrome Soft’s softer core and lose distance, which is a major reason why Callaway have introduced the new Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X balls in 2024.
