PING G430 Max 10K Driver

Posted by GolfBox on 25th Jan 2024

PING’s newest addition to the G430 driver range services the segment of golfers who need maximum forgiveness off the tee. That probably doesn’t come as too much of a surprise given PING and forgiveness are mentioned together about as frequently as gin and tonic. But the new PING G430 MAX 10K driver delivers absolutely monstrous levels of forgiveness. Boasting a record-breaking MOI exceeding the 10K benchmark, it’s the most forgiving driver PING has ever built. In 2024, salvation off the tee is only one swing away.

THE 10K BARRIER

In marathon running, it’s the sub two-hour barrier. In golf, it’s shooting a sub-60 round. In the driver game, it’s exceeding the 10,000 g-cm2 MOI mark.

Sporting benchmarks are there to be broken, but what the PING G430 MAX 10K driver has achieved is simply breathtaking. Creating a highly forgiving driver isn’t all that hard; the tricky bit, however, is increasing a driver’s forgiveness without sacrificing speed.

It’s the Yin and Yang balancing act that has proven problematic for club manufacturers ever since the dawn of the game: focus on forgiveness and speed inevitably suffers; too much attention given to speed produces a side effect of unforgiveness. But what makes the PING G430 MAX 10K driver unique is the fact forgiveness has been boosted to record-breaking levels without sacrificing any speed.

MOI SECRETS

The new G430 MAX 10K is a completely different beast to the regular G430 MAX driver. A good bit of the driver’s 10K barrier-busting forgiveness comes from two major areas:

  1. Fixed Rear Weight
  2. Lightweight CarbonFly Crown.

The standard G430 MAX driver featured a 25g adjustable weight. However, the 10K has a fixed 28g weight that concentrates the centre of gravity low and deep to cut spin while maintaining ball speed across the entire area of the face. And while the standard G430 MAX driver features a titanium crown, the MAX 10K model borrows the carbon fibre version seen on the G430 LST (low spin technology) driver.

Weighing just 13g, PING’s CarbonFly crown wrap saves another 5g of weight, crucially from the top part of the head. The majority of the saved mass was funnelled into the 10K’s heavier rear weight while the remainder was redistributed within the head, to further lower the CG and elevate MOI.

A BIGGER HEAD AND THINNER FACE

The MAX 10K’s larger head profile is PING’s biggest to date and is another contributing factor to the driver’s huge, record-setting MOI. While it remains at the 460cc volume limit, PING have maximised the head’s front-back and heel-toe dimensions to leave the MOI tap wide open. And the profile also offers a big, confidence-inspiring appearance that will help golfers launch drives longer and straighter.

Meanwhile, PING have thinned out the 10K’s shallow face in the spots where it counts the most, to create extra trampoline-effect flex for booming distance off the tee. And the variable face roll of PING’s brilliantly descriptive Spinsistency technology also makes an appearance, adding to the spin and distance improvements all over part of the face.

It all leads to impressive tee-ball performance for a very healthy percentage of golfers in 2024.

THE G430 MAX 10K HL (High Launch)

The lighter overall weight of the G430 MAX 10K HL driver offers all the technology and performance of the standard version, including the record-setting MOI, for slower-swing-speed golfers who don’t generate sufficient clubhead speed and ball velocity from traditionally weighted clubs.

Custom engineered and custom built at 46" with a lighter back weight (19g), ultra-light shafts (PING Alta Quick 35/45) and grip (Lamkin UTx Lite, 41g). The result is a lower overall system weight so golfers can swing faster and generate more ball speed for higher-launching, longer-carrying and straighter tee shots.
