Ever wanted to know what it feels like to play golf like Tiger Woods? Well, TaylorMade have made it possible with a special edition release of their Milled Grind 2 wedges.
The Tiger Woods’ Special Edition Grind replicates the great man’s loft and bounce combinations and exact grind patterns, which are faithfully reproduced using TaylorMade’s super accurate and highly consistent CNC milling technique.
So suit up in the Sunday red, perfect the post-shot club twirl and get ready to experience the same sensations as the 15-time major winner, albeit without the entire golf world watching your every move.
TIGER’S GRINDS
Tiger won his record-equalling 82nd PGA Tour victory at the ZOZO Championship in Japan last year using TaylorMade Milled Grind 2 wedges, which carried the same specifications as those being replicated in the two new TW Special Edition Grind wedges.
Available in 56˚ and 60˚, with bounce of 11˚ and 12˚ respectively, both wedges carry Tiger’s preferred grind pattern which was perfected after many lengthy testing sessions with TaylorMade.
The 56˚ wedge has relief out of the leading and trailing edges, with a significant amount of relief also taken out of the heel to allow Tiger, and now everybody else, to play open and closed face shots with ease.
The grind pattern on the 60˚ model has slightly more relief taken out of the leading edge, which is essential to play off the hard and firm turf conditions that Tiger commonly encounters on tour courses. It allows him, and now you, to be more aggressive with open-faced shots as the leading edge stays closer to the ground so it can clip the ball cleanly off unyielding turf.
TIGER’S GROOVES
Tiger is a firm believer that his wedges must be rusted before they can be trusted.
To that effect the face and grooves of the new TW Grind wedges aren’t plated, which means they will become rusty over time to offer a more precise feel and increased spin, particularly in damp conditions.
TaylorMade’s deeper, sharper and narrower ZTP grooves are employed on TW Grind wedges to offer improved spin and control, while the laser-etching between the grooves roughens the face sufficiently to provide extra bite on short shots around the green.
A “thick-thin” design around the topline and toe of the wedges optimises the centre of gravity for better flight and shaping control – attributes that are a genuine necessity in the hands of Tiger Woods and now available, by default, to anyone who plays the new TaylorMade Tiger Woods’ Special Edition Grind wedges.
