With a brief to create the most premium players-distance iron the game of golf has ever seen, the club designers at TaylorMade would’ve enjoyed designing the new TaylorMade P790 Ti irons.

Employing advanced technology, a cutting-edge hollow-bodied design and featuring the extensive use of exotic materials, TaylorMade P790 Ti irons produce the sort of on-course performance that only a truly premium iron can deliver.

The Tech

Delving into the boundary-pushing technology and materials that form the basis of TaylorMade P790 Ti irons quickly shows why they are TaylorMade’s most technologically advanced irons.

The 'Ti' suffix at the end of the name might offer a clue if you're familiar with the elements of the periodic table, but it’s fair to say no expense has been spared in TaylorMade’s pursuit of excellence.

'Ti' is the chemical symbol for Titanium, the super-strong, lightweight metal used in the head of every driver – and now used in the face and body of every TaylorMade P790 Ti iron.

Machined titanium irons are a major departure from the steel that is used predominantly in almost every other iron on the market. But despite being significantly more expensive than steel, TaylorMade couldn’t ignore titanium’s lightweight properties that contribute to the P790 Ti’s excellent ball speed and distance-producing qualities.

However, the presence of another exotic metal also contributes to the premium distance and playability of the P790 Ti irons.

A huge bar of tungsten – weighing up to 119g – is an eye-catching feature on the back bar.

It concentrates the centre of gravity deep and low for a high-launch/low-spin trajectory that makes P790 Ti irons so long and lethal yet still shape shots as required.

Forgiveness and Feel

TaylorMade P790 Ti irons offer superb forgiveness, with their hollow-bodied construction providing assistance when shots aren’t out of the centre, while a Speed Pocket (a thin cut-through on the sole) provides a helping hand for strikes low down on the clubface.

The P790 Ti irons are injected with Speedfoam, which supports the thin and flexible face used on the irons while also providing vibration damping for a clean, direct and premium feel.
