If playing better golf was on your New Year’s resolution list, TaylorMade’s new Soft Response and Tour Response golf balls might just take you there in 2020.

The three-layer balls are designed to maximise the performance of the average golfer, with a focus on minimising spin and generating distance with the driver while improving feel around the greens. The new TaylorMade golf balls are built for regular swing speeds

The  Soft Response has an emphasis on maximising driver distance and providing a soft feel, whereas the Tour Response is more of the "complete package" ball that is long but can also spin around the greens when called upon.

While both have large, soft internal cores, it's the mantle layers and covers that ultimately determine and differentiate the performance characteristics of both balls.

The Soft Response's ZnO Flex inner core has a slightly lower compression (35) than the Tour Response's 40 compression core, to deliver trademark soft feel.

Soft Response Tech - Ionomer Cover

A soft polymer mantle encases the Soft Response’s core, further enhancing the soft feel, but the Ionomer cover is the component that promotes driver distance, especially for average swing speeds.

The cover is much stiffer than the urethane one on the Tour Response and a new dimple design maximises the Soft Response’s flight and distance with the driver.

Shallower, U-shaped dimples - 322 of them to be precise – increase the Soft Response’s aerodynamic lift, which provides easier launch and more hang time.

Meanwhile, the  Tour Response's core is wrapped by a firmer and stiffer mantle layer, called Speedmantle, which integrates with a softer cast urethane cover to produce extra greenside spin.

It's the Speedmantle that gives the Tour Response the ability to work with both the inner core and outer cover to produce long and low-spinning drives while also providing spin and control for irons and extra stopping power around the greens.

Tour Response Tech - Advanced Speed

The Tour Response offers Tour ball-like performance around the greens but will still maximise tee-ball distances for average swing speeds.

Both balls are available in traditional white and high-visibility yellow.
