The Ultimate Golf Trip Packing List: Remember These Items
Posted by GolfBox on 4th Dec 2024
Flights, accommodation and tee times were booked months ago and the excitement is building. Your long-awaited golf trip is finally here and it’s time to pack for it!
We’ve done the legwork for you and created the ultimate golf trip packing list. Pack the following items and you’re guaranteed to get your golfing holiday off to a good start.
1. GOLF CLUBS
It should be no great surprise that packing your golf clubs is essential for your golf trip. If you’re travelling by air, make sure you remove the head from you driver (if it’s adjustable). Wrap it in a golf towel and stow it in a pocket of your golf bag for protection. To save weight, consider leaving a few clubs home. And it’ll be worth cleaning your clubs to have them sparkling clean for your golf trip and alleviate any biosecurity concerns at customs.
2. GOLF BAG
Even if you’re not planning to carry your clubs on the golf course, using a lightweight golf bag for your golf trip is a sensible idea. Manoeuvring your clubs will be easier and it’ll help you avoid overweight luggage charges.
3. GOLF TRAVEL COVER
To transport your clubs and bag safely, you’ll need a golf travel cover. The best ones have sturdy wheels, internal and external compression straps, and internal storage pockets to stow your golf shoes, golf clothes and all your other golf-related detritus.
4. RANGEFINDER/GOLF WATCH
To maximise your enjoyment playing at a new course, pack your distance measuring device. A GPS golf watch or laser rangefinder will provide correct yardages right in an instant, saving you time and avoiding the frustration that comes with hitting the wrong club.
5. GOLF SHOES
Don’t forget to pack your golf shoes! After your clubs and bag, they’re arguably the most important piece of golf equipment you’ll need on your trip. Pack them in your travel case or carry-on. Or even wear them if they’re hybrid soft spike golf shoes. Just don’t forget them!
6. UMBRELLA AND RAIN GEAR
A sodden golf course being hammered by wind and rain probably wasn't what you were anticipating when booking your golf trip. Unfortunately you can’t control the weather. Pack an umbrella and waterproof rainwear just in case the weather turns nasty.
7. GOLF HAT, SUNNIES AND SUNSCREEN
Getting sunburnt is never fun, especially on a golf trip. Pack a golf hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect your skin and eyes from sun damage. If you wear prescription sunnies double check you’ve got them with you — otherwise, you’ll be playing blind.
8. PASSPORT
Your international golf trip won't even get off the ground if you arrive at the airport sans passport. Triple check you’ve got it with you and always keep it close to hand.
9. WALLET AND ID
Make sure your wallet contains cards, cash and some form of verifiable identification. If you’re planning to hire a car for your golf trip, you'll need your driver’s license. Cash is always a good back up in case you lose your credit cards or they’re declined.
10. PHONE AND CHARGER
Pulling together a golf trip takes a fair effort. Communicating effectively with your fellow travellers is essential, so your phone is an important item to remember (you’ll also need it to snap some pics and vids to record your golf trip experience). Remember to bring your charger or power bank and if your golf trip is heading international, bring your universal power adapter.
11. WATER BOTTLE
While you can always wait for the beverage cart to meet you on the course, packing your water bottle will keep you hydrated while playing and while travelling.
12. GOLF BELT
There’s nothing worse than dressing to impress only to realise you've forgotten your golf belt. If the course you’re playing has a strict dress code, you’ll need to belt it up.
13. GOLF TOWEL
Don’t take the towels from your hotel on the course! Packing a couple of fresh golf towels will have you well prepared when you hit the course.
14. SPEAKER AND HEADPHONES
Pack your Bluetooth speaker if your golf trip requires a party vibe! You can enjoy tunes on course and afterwards, wherever you end up. But pack your noise cancelling headphones if you need to get to sleep earlier than the rest of your crew.
15. GOLF CLOTHING
Golf shirts, golf pants or golf shorts are your entry ticket to the golf course. Pack plenty of them so you won't have to do a mid-trip wash.
16. GOLF GLOVES AND GOLF BALLS
It’s not the end of the world if you do forget to pack your golf gloves and golf balls. But throw a couple of fresh gloves and a carton of balls in your bag pocket and you’ll get some extra time on the practice area before you tee off.
17. REGULAR SHOES
Unless you’re a hybrid golf shoe guy, you’ll need to pack a pair of regular shoes for times you’re not on the golf course.
18. MEDICATION
Scrambling to fill a medicinal prescription is a hassle at the best of times, but when you’re on a golf trip it’s a major mission. Pack enough to see you through your entire trip.
