Talor Gooch What's in the Bag? (2023)

Posted by GolfBox on 19th May 2023

American Talor Gooch has been making golf look rather easy in 2023. The American went on a red-hot tear when claiming consecutive LIV tournaments (Adelaide and Singapore) and helped his new RangeGoats GC win their first teams title in Singapore.

While the official world golf rankings are no longer accurate, Gooch is without doubt a rising star in the game.

Let's take a look what's inside Talor Gooch’s bag:

Talor Gooch Driver

Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond Driver

BUY NOW Button  CALLAWAY PARADYM TRIPLE DIAMOND S (9.0°)

The Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond S driver Talor Gooch plays is a smaller, tour-only variant of the regular Paradym Triple Diamond driver. It has a smaller 420cc head compared to the 450cc of the regular Triple Diamond driver but shares the same performance-enhancing technology that makes the Paradym driver unique in the game.

Paradym is the first driver to utilise a carbon fibre frame, which makes it more forgiving by concentrating greater mass lower in the head, and it’s fair to say Talor has been taking full advantage of it off the tee.

A Fujikura Atmos Tour Spec Blue 7 X shaft is fitted to Talor’s Paradym Triple Diamond S driver.

Talor Gooch Fairway Wood

2021 CALLAWAY EPIC SPEED TRIPLE DIAMOND (15°)

Talor relies on a trusty old favourite with his three wood selection: a Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond. Released in 2021, Talor’s Epic Speed fairway contains a Jailbreak Speed Frame, carbon fibre crown, aerodynamic shaping and an AI-designed face.

But the Triple Diamond variant features a more compact head and spins less, with a couple of sole weights pushing the centre of gravity forward. Talor uses his Epic Speed Triple Diamond three wood off the tee and rips it off the deck, too.

Callaway have since replaced the Epic Speed with the new  Paradym Triple Diamond Fairway Wood

A Mitsubishi Diamana D-Limited 80 TX shaft is fitted to Talor’s Epic Speed Triple Diamond fairway wood.

Talor Gooch Hybrid

2015 CALLAWAY EPIC SPEED TRIPLE DIAMOND (15°)

The Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 hybrid in Talor’s bag is somewhat of an outlier, but you get the sense it’s been a faithful and reliable kind of club throughout his career. Released in 2015, the Big Bertha Alpha 815 hybrid is a typical tour-grade hybrid and its compact profile and muscular appearance make it extremely versatile.

Talor employs it in a variety of contexts, such as booming approach shots into par fives and playing delicate bump-and-run shots around the greens.

Callaway released a new Big Bertha hybrid this year, but the latest  Paradym Hybrid would be the closest current model to Talor’s Big Bertha Alpha 815.

An Aldila Tour Blue ATX 105h TX shaft completes the deal.

Talor Gooch Irons

2021 CALLAWAY X FORGED CB (4-6)

Talor plays Callaway X Forged irons in his 4-6 irons, which offer extra forgiveness and a higher launch angle in his longer irons. The X Forged is a classic forged cavity back that provides elite ball strikers such as Talor the opportunity to shape the ball and control its trajectory.

Meanwhile, Talor plays Callaway Apex MB irons in his shorter irons. The MB stands for muscleback and they are classically-shaped irons built for players who strike the ball out of the centre with incredible consistency.

They are characterised by a large tungsten weight sitting on the rear of the club head, which shifts mass higher to elevate the centre of gravity and dial up spin, and they offer precise feedback and pure feel.

Nippon Modus 125 X shafts are standard across all of Talor’s irons.

Talor Gooch Wedges

2021 CALLAWAY MD5 JAWS (46°/10°, 52°/10°, 56°/10°, 60°/8°)

Talor carries four wedges in his bag and it’s a bit of a JAWS feeding frenzy. MD5 JAWS wedges offer incredible spin and control, with the JAWS groove design the sharpest in the game.

Talor plays the standard S grind in all his wedges except the 60°, which features a C grind sole that makes it easier for him to play open-faced shots around the green.

Accurate wedge play always plays a prominent role in getting your name near the top of the leaderboard, so it seems Talor’s decision to game  JAWS wedges is having the desired effect.

Talor Gooch Putter

BUY NOW Button ODYSSEY TRI HOT 5K TWO

The Odyssey Tri Hot 5K putter range is among the most forgiving in golf. The 5K refers to the MOI figure - the stability of the putter head - and anything north of 5000 is considered worthy of a gold medal.

Talor uses the Two model, a classic Anser-style putter head that has received the 5K treatment. The Two’s amalgam of aluminium, tungsten and steel is crafted to produce a smooth and stable stroke and the putter also features the original White Hot face insert.

Talor Gooch Ball

 2023 TITLEIST PRO V1

Talor uses the three-layer Pro V1 ball, which provides a whirlwind of performance. Off the tee, the Pro V1 is low-spinning and long while around the greens it’s soft, spins and allows Talor to display his short game prowess to the best of his ability.
